Weedon Island Preserve in St Pete

If you enjoy nature and haven’t visited the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center in St Pete, certainly add it to your list! While the on-site Cultural/Natural History Center itself is temporarily closed (as of date of this writing), the 3,190 acres of aquatic and upland ecosystems remain open to explore via marked trails. This was yesterday’s adventure!

Weedon Island is home to numerous native plants, animals, a lookout tower (Colt sprinted upon spotting), platforms over the bay, miles of tree tunnels to kayak/canoe through, and much more. Yesterday, Colt and I opted to simply walk the trails, taking in the sights by foot. I’ve added a few extra pictures to this post to give you an idea of what to expect.

It was great seeing so many people outdoors exploring for their dose of Vitamin D, family/friend time, as well as some exercise. We’re excited about returning in the future to tour via kayak!

Kayak Rentals

Speaking of which, if you don’t have your own equipment, no worries! Simply rent a kayak, canoe, or SUP on-site through Sweetwater Kayaks. Instruction and guided tours can also be arranged. Contact Sweetwater Kayaks directly for any questions.

Happy Valentine’s Day, All! As I rolled out of bed, was nice being greeted with a delicious breakfast prepared by chef Colt and Amy. (He delivered Amy a dozen roses from us guys, plus a couple of her favorite things)
