Medieval Times a Unique Day Trip for Entire Family

Published on 06/18/21: As you know, we occasionally explore activities up to 2 hrs away through our #LovingStPeteDayTrips series. With a 6 yr old who’s enthralled by Ninjago and other ‘warrior’ shows, Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Kissimmee seemed like a solid fit for this series. And it was!

Who’s been to Medieval Times? If you have, you know it’s a dinner theater that takes you back in time to the ‘pageantry and excitement of being a guest of the queen’. You’re served dinner & drinks while watching the knights battle on the sand below. In addition to jousting & fighting with various weaponry, you’ll also see falconry and horsemanship as the knights show off their skills to impress the queen and her guests.

Medieval Times Crowd Participation

For a bit of competitive spirit, upon entering you’re assigned a knight who represents your section in the arena. So when for instance your ‘Red’ knight jousts the ‘Yellow’ knight off his horse, your section erupts with cheers. Upon entering, kids can purchase glow-in-the-dark swords and other items. Colt unfortunately has the ‘here’s a ticket stub from Disney’ vs the ‘here’s a huge Mickey from Disney’ parents, though we couldn’t resist the ol’ medieval sword. Plus we went for his 6th bday last month, so even upgraded to have him “Knighted” and name announced when they called out birthdays. Check our stories if you’re interested to see these upgrades in action. He had a blast!

Food: The meal includes garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, herb-basted potatoes. A vegetarian option is avail.

Drink: Non-alcoholic are included, though cocktail servers will kindly deliver adult beverages (cash bar).

Cost: Tickets are $64.95/adult and $36.95 for < 12 yr old. Upgrades are available that include VIP seating, banners, group pictures, etc.

Medieval Times History

Medieval Times started in Spain, with the 1st U.S. location opening in Kissimmee, Dec of 1983, just a couple years before I visited (dating myself). The various Medieval Times Castles have welcomed over 60 million guests at this point!

*Pictures weren’t easy because of the screen in front of the seats, plus the lack of lighting.

Mike Braswell is a Tampa Bay Realtor, serving St Petersburg, Clearwater, all nearby beaches and more. Mike started LovingStPete in October of 2020 after a difficult year took its toll on local businesses. After being cooped up for portions of 2020 (lockdown) Mike and his son decided to get out and explore, helping spread the good word about the local area he loves so much. Often even doing gift card giveaways to support local. LovingStPete is now followed by over 48 thousand people on social media! The majority of posts are informative on fun parks, activities, day trips, great restaurants, and in general provide a comprehensive tour of the area!

Soon after receiving his bachelors in Management Information Systems, Mike developed and then operated a vacation rental advertising business for 10+ years as CEO/Owner. The business was eventually acquired by VRBO. Mike has earned the trust of many large clients over the years. Such as NFL, Wynn Resorts, Blue Cross Blue Shield, VISA, Genuine Parts Company (NAPA Auto Parts), AT&T, and other Fortune 500 companies.

When not spending time with his beautiful wife and energetic son, Mike enjoys boating and is also an avid tennis player. An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
