Boyd Hill Nature Preserve in St Petersburg

Published on 03/23/21: Colt and I finally checked out Boyd Hill Nature Preserve this weekend and we loved it. What an incredible area just 10 minutes from downtown St. Pete! Trails lead you through 300 acres of protected land. An ecosystem that’s complete with lake, marsh, swamp, pine flatwoods, sand scrub, and hammock.

You’ll of course see plenty of wildlife as well. Whether up close in the education center, within their ‘Birds of Prey’ area (injured birds) or out in the wild as you navigate the trails.
There are many well marked trails to explore. Colt and I opted for one of the shorter ‘loops’ in our first visit, yet we were still floored with what we saw. I mean, keeping in mind that downtown buildings were still in view, yet it felt as though we were in the Everglades.
While Colt really enjoyed seeing the alligators, turtles, birds, snakes (only inside the nature center), old concrete covered bridge and venturing onto the docks/platforms over the water….he also really enjoyed their playground.  I’ll admit, it’s a cool ‘fort looking’ playground (end of pics), so I get why it ranked very high on his Boyd Hill ‘favorites’ list.
Few items to note (at time of this posting):
Admission Fee: $3/adults, $1.50/children ages 3-16, and under 3 are free.

Additional Info:

– Non-Motorized bikes are permitted on some of the trails.
– Most trails are ADA accessible.
– No Pets are allowed.
– Check into their nature camps/programs for children!
– You can rent the Environment Studies Area for ie an event, meeting, or retreat.
– Boyd Hill recently expanded to from 245 acres to 300 acres.
